Stop trying to prove that you are enough and just embrace it. Stop chasing the next way to get a quick “like” on social media. I know its easier said than done. I know the world is screaming at you from every direction that your clothes should be tighter and more revealing. I hear how this world tries to preach that the only way you’ll be loved is if you don’t hold back and just reveal it all.
Can I challenge you to stop holding back in a different way? Can I challenge you to dig deep and ask yourself what sets your soul on fire? Is it really the cat-calling or being on the other end of stares? Are those the dreams you had when you were a little girl? Where is your true passion in life? That one, right now that you’re whispering in the back of your head and instantly stuffing it back down deep because it feels impossible. What is it?
Friend, I get it. I worked in a job that I wish I hadn’t. A job where I wore a tight white shirt and the teeny-tiniest orange shorts. A job that in my early twenties seemed like a dream come true, because it not only got me noticed, but also my husband. At the time, it seemed like a win-win. Boost my confidence with fake appreciation and build my hubby’s ego by being married to “that wife.”
A few years after I left that job, I welcomed a beautiful baby girl and my WHOLE perspective changed. I know now, more than ever, that I don’t need to prove I am worthy of love because I have a Heavenly Father that says I am. I look at my daughter just in awe, and I KNOW in my bones that God looks at each of us that same way. I pray that she never knows the pressure of seeking society’s approval, a family member’s approval, or a “friend’s” approval. I pray that she knows her beauty comes from inside, even though she is equally beautiful on the outside.
I would much rather see myself, my daughter, and my sisters in faith walking in confidence. Confidence in our worthiness that isn’t dependent on comments from strangers, but rather comments from our Creator. I hope the verses below help remind you that you are loved, worthy, chosen & redeemed.
You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way. Solomon 4:7
She is worth far more than rubies. Proverbs 31:10
She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. Proverbs 31:25
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. Ephesians 1:4
Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 1 Peter 3:3-4
